Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I introduce myself, of course. If they have not already informed me the specifics of that which they need help, I inquire and learn what we really need to focus on.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
1. Completion of every math course offered in high school
2. State Math League Competitor
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Honestly, I undercharge a lot because I'm getting paid for my passion.
How did you get started teaching?
I like answering questions and guiding thought; learning is literally the best thing someone can do for themselves besides quitting smoking. There's nothing quite like seeing someone's eyes light up when they truly realize and understand a topic.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly friends, but a lot of anonymous online help as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The discovery of the new world-record for largest prime number known to humans!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't ever be scared to ask a question; it's our jobs.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I guess, "Am I being honest with myself in what I really need help with?"
If you're in high school, sure it's fun to always hone in easy arithmetic problems and such, but new, complex operations are being added 24/7.
