About

I have recently graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. Through my time at Gustavus I have been able to spend time in many different classrooms grades Kindergarten through 6th. I student taught in a Spanish immersion school in 1st and 4th grade and I am fluent in Spanish. I am excited to be able to use the skills and resources I have learned in the past 4 years to tap into students creativity and show them how fun learning can be.

I am excited to tutor because I want to make individual connections with students, see their progress and help them succeed. I have volunteered in programs that allow me to work one on one with students who are English language learners, have a learning disorder or are just struggling in school. Having helped students one on one before I know the difference a good connection and engaging lessons can make in a students progress. Helping them reach their goals is an amazing feeling that I love fostering.

    Frequently asked questions

I think it is important to get to know the student before diving right in. I like to ask about interest and hobbies as well as areas of concern or sturggle and areas of sucess. I also like to talk to the parents if they are requesting a tutuor for the student and the student themselves to see how they learn best or specific thing I can do that may work best! After the student is a little more comfortable with me then I can start with an introductory lesson or homework help.

I have spent the last four years studying the growth and development of children throughout elementary school and how to create lessons that are age appropriate, engaging and target the specific needs of a student. I have spent time in a multitude of different classrooms volunteering and teaching. For my license I have spent substantial time in Kindergarten, 1st grade, 4th grade and 6th grade. Most of my volunteering has been in 2nd and 3rd grade.

I have taken specific classes on how to teach and assess fluency and comprehension in reading. I have many different strategies and resources from these courses that I am excited to try out! I have also created specific programs for students who struggle with reading and one that has dyslexia.

I have been studying Spanish for 9 years now. I took Spanish classes all throughout high school and college. I student taught in a Spanish immersion school where all subjects are taught in Spanish to native and non native students. I was in a 1st and 4th grade classroom so I have experience in helping students learn to read in Spanish and also facilitating discussions in Spanish and helping with composition writing. I plan to get a job teaching in a Spanish immersion school in the future.

I charge about $30-$40 per hour of tutoring depending on the location and rigor. This can be discussed before setting up a tutoring session

I knew I wanted to become a teacher when I was able to teach my younger brother who has ADHD how to read. This was such a rewarding experience that I knew I wanted to help kids learn how to read for the rest of my life. I have worked specifically in 1st and 2nd grade because that is when most learning disabilities are found and diagnosed, and I want to help students navigate that in their school life. I know the challenges that they may face, and I want to help build their confidence and give them the tools necessary to become lifelong readers and learners.
