Hi, my name is Chris, and I am excited to offer lessons for students that want to improve their English (ESL) skills! I also offer Japanese beginner & intermediate level lessons!
I've been studying Japanese language and culture for eight years, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Japanese Language & Literature from the University of Minnesota in 2017. During my time as a college student, I tutored ESL and Japanese, and have since worked with Japanese clients at a global relocation company. I have experience in teaching, interpreting, and translation.
Lesson Style:
All lessons are available for adults, students, and children of all ages, so please let me know how I can best meet your needs. With hard work, we can achieve your English (or Japanese) goals together!
I have a passion for learning and teaching languages, and I can say that deciding to dedicate myself to learning Japanese eight years ago completely changed my life. I teach ESL from the perspective of a language learner, which allows me to break ideas down to their simplest form and connect with the student. I enjoy everything about the process of helping people reach their language goals.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by asking the student to identify their goals, and then I complete a basic evaluation of their current proficiency level. I like to make it clear that my lessons are created to help the student achieve their specific goals, so I don't believe in applying a cookie-cutter approach to teaching. Rather than repeating what may be easily accessible in a textbook or classroom, I like to offer students a chance to truly engage with the material and develop an understanding of real English (or Japanese).
