Growing up, I faced extreme adversity. I Always felt inadequate in terms of academics and book smart in relation to my peers. Eventually, I was able to persevere and acquire the formal training in addition to the necessary academic support. The ability to relate to the challenges students Gives me a unique perspective and ability to The to connect and form relationships...this is not only important but imperative on the students ability to grow and retain the knowledge. As a philosophy major, I Specialize in the Socratic method which Emphasizes the need for productive discomfort in order to retain knowledge. Additionally, social emotional and cultural factors cannot be ignored-as children have a robust identity that plays a role in their learning styles. My formal training in helping students achieve their maximum potential is rooted in being able to meet students where they're at, intern, achieving what's known as the proximal learning zone. My passion for knowledge, and service to my community allows Me to stay motivated even in the most tumultuous times such as these.
As a child I never felt smart enough. Therefore, I enjoy when I'm am to able to help students form their identity around the ability to retain knowledge and grow academically. When I see enthusiasm, confidence and comprehension skills in my students - I can't help but reflect on my own growth and success throughout the years in life and academic settings. It's a privilege to see my students overcome their barriers and learn new information.
