About
I am enthusiastic about reading and helping young learners to develop their own love of reading. The bond I establish with youth helps their skills flourish. We start where they are at and develop goals they can meet with my support and encouragement. I have been tutoring K-3 grade students full-time in reading for two years with MN Reading Corps, one year privately, and have many years experience working in child care teaching and after school community programs. Empowered students are motivated learners!
I enjoy getting to know each unique student and watching their confidence and love of reading soar!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I use children's mindful breathing techniques, sensory fidgets and engaging conversation to establish comfort and rapport. We warm up with a game or playful reading activity. I conduct an assessment to determine where their reading level is at, and then we create targeted goals together and acknowledgements for working toward those goals. Then I utilize reading intervention activities each session that emphasize work and encouragement in goal areas to develop strong, well-rounded fluency.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have successfully completed two years of professional training from the Americorps program MN Reading Corps in data-based reading interventions. I have attended trainings from the MN Literacy Council as well as the University of MN Center for Youth Development on trauma-sensitive behavior management and engaging youth in youthwork. I am also a certified Yoga Calm Youth Instructor and mother, with years experience working with children in many capacities.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I typically charge $50.00/hr and conduct 60 minute sessions. Pricing is dependent on client need, distance, and travel time.
