About
My name is Ruth Ann. I am a retired math teacher with over 35 years of experience. Most of my years were at Jackson Middle School in the Anoka-Hennepin School District. I have a lot of experience, teaching Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra, and for the last 12 years of my career, I was also the Jackson Math League coach. PLEASE NOTE: Even though most of my experience is teaching middle school math, I also enjoy teaching younger children math, as well as other subjects. I just LOVE helping kids learn. Even more, I love helping kids gain confidence in their skills and problem solving. It is very rewarding and gratifying to me to know that I am helping a young child learn and understand how to read as well. I am very flexible with the ages and subjects of students that I'd like to tutor, so please keep that in mind. Since retiring in June of 2016, I have worked three long-term substitute math teaching jobs, as well as daily subbing in the Anoka-Hennepin School District where I retired from. I am very young at heart, have a sense of humor, a lot of enthusiasm, and have always maintained a growth mindset. Currently, I am tutoring a 7th grade student in Otsego, just two hours a week (one hour each on Monday and Wednesday). It's going great, and I really enjoy working one on one with students. I would like to help you, or your child, and since I am semi-retired, my hours to work are very flexible, so I am ready to go. I hope I can help you! Thank you for considering me. Ruth Ann
I just love helping young people learn! I love it when I can teach anything really, and have it make sense to a learner. I especially love teaching math. Too many people say, "I just am not good at math", or "I don't get math". That is so sad. You would never say that about your ability to read or not read. Math is just something that you apply and do. Numbers are all around us. There is nothing in this world that exists without numbers or in some way involve numbers. So, it is my goal to help students learn to apply themselves, and become more confident in their ability to solve problems - especially the kind that involve creativity and higher level thinking. "Inch By Inch", Math is a cinch! That is where my business name comes from. (IBI). Thanks for reading and please contact me if you are in need of tutoring.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I'd like to either talk to a parent/guardian of the student (depending on the age, if appropriate), or the student themselves, to assess what the learning needs are, and to get a feel for where the student is at.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I am very flexible with pay. Currently I am tutoring a student in Otsego, and am being paid $30 per hour. That may be too high for some, and these days of Covid, I just want to help out families without it breaking the family budget. Generally, I think $25 per hour and up is where I am at.
How did you get started teaching?
I really looked up to a lot of my teachers when I was in junior high. They really took an interest in me, and I think that is why I wanted to pursure the field of education. It's all about building relationships. When you have a relationship based on respect, and just getting to know your students, learning will occur.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked primarily with Junior High and Middle School age children. I just enjoy that age level, as I think that you can still help young people at that age form their understandings about math, and just the world around them.
