Zoe Chemistry Tutoring
About
I am currently a undergraduate student studying chemistry with a minor in education at Villanova University. I also currently work in a research lab trying to make more sustainable plastic. Teaching has been a passion of mine which began in high school when I tutored a fellow students and has continued into college. I work with a program now with a community center in inter-city Philadelphia to tutor children ages 5-12. I have experience working with students of all ages and I have such a deep passion for chemistry!
Chemistry often has a connotation that it is impossible for anyone to understand however I think once students get over this fear they will be able to tackle it. I love to hear about when my students succeed because it means all of their hard work has payed off!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I allow the student to voice what they feel they are struggling with if there is anything. If not, then I ask for their syllabus with all of the topics for the semester and assignment or test dates. I like to know what the curriculum is and make sure they are aware of tasks that are coming up so we can prepare accordingly. Then, I like to work through some problems with them to see where they are at whether it is homework or an outside assignment. This gives me a good glimpse into the problem areas which I can then address. Sometimes all it requires is a different explanation to clear up any confusion, otherwise I will try other tactics.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am working on my Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry right now and a minor in education. This semester in my education class there was a service learning aspect which required us to take our knowledge from the class and apply it to a real classroom exeperience. I have a lot of experience tutoring in particular especially in chemistry courses. I also have experience taking AP Chemistry in high school and taking the AP exam.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I think $20 an hour is a reasonable price.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring in high school to make some quick cash however my passion really began in college. I started a service program where we would tutor students in Philadelphia. I loved working with the kids, it was the highlight of every week and I decided that I needed to find a job that I could incorporate this type of interaction. I thought teaching would be the best compromise because I could still pursue chemistry and research while still having interactions with students.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from kindergarten to freshmen in college and everything in between. The students have been from various backgrounds and at multiple levels and awareness of their learning.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is the best learning environment for me? Is there a style of learning that works the best for me (ie. visual, auditory, etc.)? What am I willing to do to be successful? What do I need the teacher to do to help me be successful?
