Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before working with a student, I like converse with the child's parent to identify learning goals. If the student has an IEP or recent evalution, I would welcome the oppertunity to review those tools. If there is not current baseline data available, I would offer assessment oppertunities. Once baseline information was established, I would be able to identify any lagging skills or gaps in learning. Then we could develop a plan to support those needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my masters degree in special education, I am trained in Orton Gillingham. I have 16 years of experience working with students with learning disabilties, I am an IEP Compliance Coach, which makes me a great advocate! I am also trained to assesses students using a variety of protocals.

Identify goals before you get started with a tutor and ask questions about the types of interventions. Look for a multi-sensory approach if you are looking for a tutor with a suspected learning disablity.
