What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Once we meet at are chosen location, we chat a bit and get to know each other. I may bring some treats and materials needed. I'll explain my process to the student and then give them an assessement, so I can see which skills we should focus on first. After the assessment, we'll use the time to have more conversation, so can get to know each other more. When we meet up for the next session, we'll discuss the results and then began with our first lesson.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an Eastern Michigan University Alumna. I graduated with a major in Language, Literature, and Writing and a minor in Communication, Theatre Arts for secondary education. I became a certified educator and have been teaching in public and private school around the globe for over 8 years. I've taught English language arts and ESL for students between the ages of 3-17 of all various skill levels.

How did you get started teaching?
I always knew I wanted to be a teacher so I applied to a teaching program. After I graduated and became a certfied teacher, I subsititute taught in several schools in Macomb County before I was approached by a recruiter to ESL in South Korea, which was right around the time I was offered a position to work for a charter school. I chose to leave to teach in a public school in Daegu, South Korea. Then I moved to Kuwait where I taught at a private school. And I just kept traveling and siteseeing and then moved to other countries I wanted to emerse myself into and learn about.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with all kinds of students: ESL, students with learning disabilities, at-risk students, very wealthy to very poor. I believe all students have the right and the will to learn whatever they want or need.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I'm currently teaching middle school students at a middle school and each day I find something I'm fond of. For example, I love when my students laugh when I say something funny. I never try be funny, but I have a quirky personality. Or when I see my students are proud of themselves for learning something they thought they couldn't.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you feel comfortable with your tutor. You don't have continue to recieve services from someone you don't like or does not teach the way you learn.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How are you going to teach me? How are you going to assess my learning? How are you going to track my process? What are our goals or learning targets that we should focus on?
