About

I graduated from one of the top colleges in the nation -- twice! My bachelor's and master's degree are both science degrees. However I love writing, linguistics, and anything to do with the English language.

I love tutoring and I'm really great at explaining things in a way that is plain and simple, and easy to remember. My tutoring experience ranges from middle school math students with learning disabilities..to organic chemistry for college students.. to teaching English to students in Nicaragua!

I'm very well-rounded and can help with pretty much any science or english-related subjects/topics.

Dara did an excellent job tutoring my son in math. She was very patient and he understood everything that she explained to him. By the end of the session he was solving the problems all by himself. He walked away feeling confident and secure in what he had learned. She made a subject that he normally has a hard time with seem easy and fun.

Frequently asked questions

I like to personalize tutoring, so my typical process is asking what the student is currently working on, then ask them what they need help with. I never assume a student's background knowlesge, rather I assess (throughout each lesson) if we need to review or learn from scratch any basic fundamentals that would be necessary for them to know.

I'm naturally encouraging, and I make sure to motivate students to do their best and celebrate their progress.

I am a two-time graduate from the University of Michigan. My undergraduate degree is in Biopsychology, Cognition, & Neuroscience; and my graduate degree is in Kinesiology.

Throughout both of my college careers, I focused, in part, on my writing and English skills, studying linguistics, taking several upper-level writing courses, and becoming well-versed with writing for research purposes.

I started tutoring voluntarily in college just because I enjoyed it so much, and have been tutoring or teaching ever since.

I've worked with various ages, ranging from elementary school through college.

I have experience teaching international students.

Specifically, I have tutored/taught these subjects: 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math; middle school English; 10th grade ACT/SAT prep; 11th grade college essay writing; college level organic chemistry.

I recently went sky diving for the first time. The weeks leading up to the event, I was so nervous. I found myself Googling "Advice for first-time sky-divers," and I felt silly for doing so. But I'm so glad I did. I found videos of people sharing stories about their first time, and then I read an article that eased my nerves completely. I love rollercoasters and I thought that sky-diving would be an extremely amplified version of a rollercoaster, but it wasn't anything like it. I never felt that drop in my stomach that I feel on the downward slope of a rollercoaster ride but it was 100% incredible. It was definitely one of my most memorable experiences.

Whenever looking for an English tutor, or ANY tutor, it's so important to make sure that the teacher is great at teaching. There is an art to teaching and explaining complex concepts in a simple way, and that's what you're looking for.

There are a plethora of teachers that are experts in their field and very knowledgeable, but not good at breaking down difficult concepts to others. Always try to find a tutor who will teach you what you want to learn and help you achieve your goals.

1. Are the concepts/formulas easy or difficult for me to remember?

2. Does it take me a long amount of time to work through a problem or question?

3. Am I able to successfully apply the same rules that I've learned to different problems that I've never seen before.
