My name is Matthew and I have been a profession tutor for several years. After graduating from the University of Miami, I have been working full time tutoring one-on-one, accruing hundreds of hours of one-on-one tutoring for companies such as Leading and Learning, Inc. and HeyTutor. Whether it's SAT/ACT test preparation or helping a struggling student skyrocket their GPA, my method is simple: communication, understanding, and adaptation. I listen to the student, I grasp what teaching style works best with their personality, and I adjust my strategy according to best assist the student's distinct unique needs. Whether it's helping a student pass an important exam, or write that A-grade paper, or assisting a struggling student rebound in a big way, I'll work diligently with your student to get them where they need to be. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process for working with a new student consists of, firstly, understanding what it is that the student needs. I discuss with the parent(s) what it is that is either holding the student back or what it is that they expect. Regarding the latter, for example, a student is having difficulty completing the assignments for a class, I will go out of my way to find out what assignments are due when, and then ensure that the student, by presenting by with the evidence of their completion beforehand. If it's ACT and SAT preparation, I go over with the student, in great detail, every practice exams to understand their strengths and weaknesses; we then work to overcome what is it they struggle with, so that come test day, they feel confident in their ability to succeed.
