About

Nursing school is grueling and time consuming! Clinical environments are chaotic and challenging! Obtianing BLS and ACLS certification is fast paced and overwhelming! How do I know? I have beeeeeeeen there, dooooooone that! And, I did it EXCEPTIONALLY well!

Are you feeling overwhelmed with: School assignments?Writing successful Nursing Care Plans? Difficult test prep or failing test scores? Preparing for BLS or ACLS Certification? Preparing for NCLEX? Writing your first resume and cover letter? Are you searching for that "experienced someone" to gently guide you through these challenges and help you succeed at reaching your ultimate goal? Well, search no longer. My VAST EXPERIENCE paired with my extreme PASSION for teaching students will guide you there!

I am a registered nurse with 23 years of experience. I have a Master's degree in Adult Health Nursing, am educated as an Advanced Practice Clinical Nurse Specialist, and have a Post-Graduate Teaching in Healthcare Ennvironments Certification. Throughout my years of working as a med-surg, ICU Stepdown, and Recovery Room nurse, I discovered my love for teaching. My career expanded into teaching BLS, then ACLS, and Community Classes, until I eventually became a Hospital Nurse Educator. Throughout my years of nursing, I discovered my tried and true love of teaching when I expanded into the academic world and became a clinical instructor teaching nursing students enrolled in preliscensure nursing programs. It was in this role that I discovered my gift of encouraging my students, both calming and challenging them, and growing them into successful graduate nurses!

The past 8 years of my career I have dedicated myself as a Full Time Nursing Faculty to guide students into becoming successful practicing nurses. My faculty role provides me expert experience in teaching all sorts of theory and clinical courses, including Pharmacology, Fundamentals, Med-Surg, and Transitions/Capstone. My Nursing Faculty role has provided me experience with: 1) writing and analyzing tests and test questions which helps you with test taking strategies, 2) spending one-on-one time with struggling students to idenitfy study habits and develop a plan of study for remediation, 3) simplifying the Nursing Care Plan process so you can more easily comprehend and write successful plans of care, and 4) communicating with students using simplified explanations, analagies, and visual concepts. My challenging but comfortable dialogue will aid in improving critical thinking and clinical judgement. So, trust me to use my Nursing Education experience TO HELP YOU!!

My greatest reward in teaching is when I see "the light bulb" go on in my students. My dialogue with you will be Socratic in nature, leading to the path of identifying accurate conclusions on your own. I will teach you how to utilize resources to find information. I will discuss with you "need-to-know" vs "nice-to-know". I will NOT feed you answers but will teach YOU how to find and narrow down the correct answers. I encourage comprehension, not memorization. And, I will be your springbaord to help you gain better clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills.

My students have regularly provided me with the following feedback: "You're one of the best instructors who truly cares about your students"; "I found you to be challenging but not intimidating, so you made me learn"; "I always felt freedom to ask questions, you never made me feel embarrassed by them"; and finally, my favorite, "I've learned more from you in one week than all of my nursing school combined so far".

Trust me to help you, too.

    Frequently asked questions

My first priority when meeting with a student is to identify why they are seeking assistance and what their ultimate end goal is. This provides us an outcome to work toward.

Next, I like to identify where the student perceives they are currently in relation to their goal.

Finally, I like to do an assessment of the student's study habits and learning styles. I have the student try and identify what has worked best for them in the past, and what did NOT work for them. Also, I like students to identify areas they percieve as "areas of strength" as well as what they percieve as "areas of needed growth".

By gathering this data and reflecting on these basic principles of learning it will provide to us a starting point for developing a plan for success.

I'm a nurse of 23 years with extensive clinical experience.

My Education: I have a Masters degree in Adult Health Nursing, am educated as an Advanced Practiced Clinical Nurse Specialist, and have a Post-Graduate "Teaching in Healtcare Settings" Certificate.

Early educational work experiences include being a BLS and ACLS instructor, teaching Community classes for patient's undergoing surgery, and work as a Full Time Hospital Nurse Educator.

My most recent and most relevent experience is that of a Nursing College Instructor. I started teaching students in the clinical setting in 2008. However, I became a Full Time Nursing Faculty member for an Accredited College of Nursing in 2014 and continue in this most passionate role today. I'm an expert educator in both Theory and Clinical. I teach theory courses for all levels of nursing students including those in Pharmacology, Fundamentals, Med-Surg, and Transitions/Capstone Courses.

And finally, on a side note: I have been a podium speaker at many National Conferences on Quality and Safety in Nursing Education. This is content that is highly being engrained into our current nursing students, soon to be nurses, and I'm passionate about instilling quality and Evidence-Based Practice into the practice of our students and Graduate Nurses, leading to positive patient outcomes.

I offer a 30 minute free consultation as a means of gathering student learner data. Should the student choose to learn with me, the cost varies according to the number of sessions purchased.

    Purchase of 1 session=$80/hour or $150/2hours

    Purchase of multiple sessions=$60/hour

I discovered my passion for teaching as soon as I became a nurse! I found myself precepting new nurses when I was still a new nurse myself. I also found myself working with nursing students who were assigned to my clinical unit. I took this discovered love of teaching and applied it whereever I could as a nurse: I taught BLS, ACLS, and Pre-Op community classes. I also became a Full Time High School Faculty teaching Health Occupations and Medical Careers Classes. This passion and progression just continued on and on, until I found myself in Graduate School to obtain my MSN so I had the credentials to teach nursing students at the College Level. Ive been teaching college level since 2008, but as a Full Time Faculty since 2014. Teaching is not what I DO, it is WHO I AM!!

I've worked with various Healthcare Professionals as students (RN's, MD's, Residents, Therapists, Nursing Assistants) as they've obtained their BLS and ACLS certifications.

I've worked with student nurses in the med-surg clinical setting.

I've worked with highschool students in the classroom while teaching Health Occupations and Medical Careers (Described similarly to teaching Anatomy & Physiology combined with clinical skills).

I've worked with non-traditional students: adults who are entering Nursing as their second career.

I've worked with students who speak English as their second language.

I've worked with student who have learning disabilities and require special accommodations.

I've worked with students from various cultual, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

I recently recieved a text from one of my students who graduated 5 years ago. She thanked me for pushing her and believing in her and for molding her into the nurse she is today. That was an out of the blue text and it really fills my heart with joy and reminds me of the importance of my work.

I very often get texts from students as they are graduating thanking me for all I did for them. One of the most satisfying things I get to experience as a teacher is that many of my student keep in touch with me through their careers. Sometimes they reach out just to say hello or let me know what they are doing. Sometimes they reach out and would like career advice. Teaching is a difficult job; but it's things like this that remind me of why I love what I do. I get to see student's lives impacted, and those lives are impacting patient's lives. Brings a lump to my throat just writing this.

Find a teacher whose experience and qualifications match what your needs are. Find someone who loves teaching, and isn't just tutoring for extra cash. Don't get me wrong, extra cash is nice!!!...but, you want someone who understands assessment and intervention and remediation and outcome achievement to get you to where you want to be.

Also, tutors should challenge YOU to do the footwork so you "learn how to learn" rather than just speaking answers to you. Hire someone to help you learn, not just memorize.

What does a typical study week look like for the student? How many hours are they putting in? How are they studying? What methods do they use? How do they know if they learned the content? What do they do when they don't understand the content?

Finally: what are they hoping to achieve by reaching out to a teacher?
