Hello! I am a patient, creative college student and tutor with three years of volunteer tutoring experience primarily in English, math, standardized test prep, and piano. I graduated high school in 2022 with a 4.3 GPA and earned acceptance into multiple prestigious schools such as Yale University and University of Michigan Ann Arbor, which is to say I am happy to tutor for advanced placement subjects or college essay/prep work as well. As for music, I have been playing competitively for over 14 years. I'm excited to work with inquisitive, hard working students and, no matter the subject, I enjoy imparting studying tactics and critical thinking skills that can guide children throughout the rest of their educational careers. My favorite part of tutoring is connecting our lessons to the real world or, alternatively, to other subjects. I feel the American education system in particular lacks the interdisciplinary instruction necessary to inspire dedicated, hard working, cultured citizens. Although studying is occasionally tiresome and unenjoyable in comparison to watching TV or another pastime, it should not be difficult or unachievable. By teaching a course but also lifelong skills, I believe my methods can often make people happier long-term. I know my favorite mentors did the same for me. :)

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to gauge current skills by reviewing recent coursework or exams. I also feel it's important to develop analytical skills early on by asking students what they believe are their greatest struggles. From there, we can set goals together, I develop a curriculum and we decide on a schedule, and finally I begin instruction with emphasis on building critical thinking and analytical skills. For example, when I tutor test prep, it's partially about drilling questions, but it is also crucial to study question format and test format in order to understand how test makers attempt to trick examinees.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with elementary through high school students, although most of my experience lies in high school curriculum.
