    Frequently asked questions

As a tutor, it is important to first establish a relationship with your new student and develop a student centered mindset.

First I use mutiple forms of assessment to obtain baseline data to address the student's academic needs. I develop an individualized program to meet those needs.

I believe parents are partners in their child's education. I consistently inform the parents of their student's progress.

I obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and am certified to teach all subjects in grades K-8 and 9th grade English.

I have a Masters Degree in the Art of Classroom Teaching from the University of Michigan and an Education Specialist Degree in School Administration.

My rate is $55 per hour.

    Minimum time:

    one hour session grades K-3

one and a half hour session grades 4-8

As a child, I pretended I was teaching imaginery children and would spend hours writing on a make shift chalkboard my parents hung up in the basement. As I became a high school student, I would tutor classmates before tests. So majoring in education was a likely choice for me! I also tutored members of the men's basketball team while in college.

My mother also served on both the local and county Board of Education for 8 years. Service to others was instilled in me at a young age.

I am experienced with all classifications of students: English learners, Special Needs, and gifted, as well as students who need motivation and self confidence.

I recently started a summer reading incentive at my school.

When school resumed in September, more than 60% of the students turned in their reading logs. Many of those students actually exceeded the required amount of books to read over summer.

For some of those students, reading during the summer started a habit and was the motivation to keep them reading all school year!

Make sure the person you chose is knowledgeable in the subject matter and really has a passion for helping others succeed.
