Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
1st I assess where they are at, how much help they need, and how I can help them. We'll set some smart goals. Then we set up a schedule for the next few weeks. We'll do best when we start and end on time and stay focused.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
2 years tutoring and 4 years teaching 6-12 mathematics.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $25 for the first hour and $20 per hour after that. This includes texts and emails throughout the week.
How did you get started teaching?
I served in the military from 2006-2012 and they paid for me to go back to school and get my MA.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with mostly 10 to 20 year olds looking to increase their math skills, get a GED, graduate H.S., increase SAT or ACT scores, or raise grades to qualify for sports.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I've recently worked on MathXL, codecombat, and Khanacademy with students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you are doing everything you can do on your own first. Don't look for a tutor to do the work for you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do I have the prerequisites for this assignment?
