Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
All of my sessions will look different because they are uniquely catered to my students! A base process looks a little something like this though:
Step 1: Go over students' current concerns and challenges in their subject
Step 2: Discuss current assignments that are causing stress.
Step 3: Curate strategies for current concerns and assignments.
Step 4: Set three goals to be completed before the next session.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been interested and actively participating in the subject since I was a child. I have never done badly in an English class. I have taken many classes on reading and writing branching into both the creative and technical sides. I have done two years of peer tutoring in college. I am certain I have what it takes to help you achieve your goals.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge by the hour at 20/hour
How did you get started teaching?
My sister is five years older than me. She was struggling in her high school English class. They were reading Huckleberry Finn at the time and she just couldn't wrap her head around the plot. She was really struggling to even do the reading in order to do the questions.
I started to sit with her when I was done with my considerably easier homework at the time. She was really defeated and I offered to help. She laughed at me until I picked up the book and started to read to her. I imitated what the voices of the characters sounded like to my child-like brain and she was suddenly engaged. After that, I read to her every night after I was done with my fourth-grade homework. It was then I realized I never wanted to stop inspiring others to understand.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students ranging from elementary level to College English.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Really think about your needs and find someone who can meet them. This is all about finding success for yourself!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. What is the biggest area I want to see growth in?
2. What about my current struggles is the hardest for me and why?
3. What keeps me from enjoying the English subject?
