About

“I want my students to enter today’s world with critical thinking, communication skills, accountability, respect for diverse settings, and with enthusiasm for the world that surrounds them.”

Kristina Mack received her B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry at Western Michigan University. Like her Grandmother, a former WMU Alumni, she became passionate about teaching while at WMU. Kristina conducted research on the luminescence of lead(II) under the guidance of Marc Perkovic and moved on to become a Senior Affiliate Instructor at Grand Valley State University where she has taught for the past twelve years. Kristina instructed Organic Chemistry I and II for the Life Sciences and Introductory Organic Chemistry for GVSU’s pre-nursing students and then to a variety of health-related programs offered at the university. In addition, Kristina fostered the Student Learning Outcomes of the General Education Program, oral and written communication, within her Introductory Green Chemistry course. Currently, a chapter publication is underway with DE Gruyter. Recently, Kristina was honored in 2017 with a Service Award and in 2016 with GVSU’s Health and Wellness Healthy Living Award along with presenting at a Teaching with Technology Symposium and presenting “Virtual Tools to Promote Cooperative Learning” at the ACS 48th Central Region Meeting. Kristina Mack served as a member of the 2013 Steering Committee for The State of Michigan DEQ GreenUp conference and presented in 2013 and 2014. Kristina has been a part-time and full-time faculty member of Western Michigan University for the past three years.

Frequently asked questions

Any series of courses is a sequence of study that prepares a student for the real world and their future pursuits. Typically, the student does not realize that the world around them is their course, that it can be utilized to explore. I believe that any series of coursework needs to be taught with a connection between the student, the material, the laboratory experiments, and the world that surrounds them.
