Chemistry/AP Chemistry Tutoring
About
I finished graduate school at Wayne State University in the Chemistry PhD program but left in 2022 with a MS (thesis option). I have tutored and taught students for more than 7 years and have AP Scholar certification by the CollegeBoard. I always find a way to help my students understand their material, and in the rare event that I cannot adequately and 100% confirm an explanation of the material, I do a thorough search for the answer via internet/textbooks/etc and ensure that it is the correct one. My ratemyprofessor page is under Jesse Duque and student comments are available for prospective clients to view. I enjoy satisfying the goals of each student in the subjects I am qualified to teach and tutor in and appreciate the positive and constructive feedback from students based on how well I was able to get them to comprehend their material.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I take a look at the course they're taking and follow the syllabus rom their class to ensure a clear understanding of grading policy, exams, material covered, etc. After the first session, I ask how well they understood material before the session and compare it to afterwards. My goal in each session is to accomplish what the student has in mind and adhere to that firmly.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
B.S/M.S. Chemistry
California State University Los Angeles 2013-2019
PhD Organic Chemistry
Wayne State University 2020-
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Since I have now gone on to graduate school to hone in on my chemistry career, I have set my minimum rate at $30/hr for each session. In a group session, I vary my rate to provide as much of a discounted price as possible.
How did you get started teaching?
My true first teaching experience came when I was doing my M.S. in chemistry. I taught for two semesters an upper division chemistry laboratory course and have ratemyprofessor reviews from students who were in my classes on there under Jesse Duque at California State University Los Angeles. Then, I did a year of substitute teaching under The Education Team of Los Angeles, serving students from K-12 in the greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have mostly worked with gifted students in high school and college students. I have some experience with middle school math/science tutoring and am available to tutor in any high school math up to AP Calculus AB/BC. Chemistry and AP Chemistry are the science subjects I can teach at the high school level.
