Kav's Essays And Science Tutoring
About
Hello! I'm a medical student at the University of Michigan. Safe to say that I'm very familiar with studying and learning! I graduated Magna Cum Laude in Honors Psychology with minors in Spanish and Entrepreneurship. I have over 4 years of tutoring experience, particularly with Writing/Editing and Biology. I have tutored both in person and online and enjoy connecting with students across ages and skillsets. I'm the most passionate about helping students overcome tough topics, guide them an area of interest, and help them onto the next level of their education.
I am consistently astounded by the amount of information and the variety of topics that students can learn and become passionate about. I really enjoy the feeling of guiding my students into understanding, particularly in subject areas that either come very naturally to them (which means a talent can be nurtured) or which present more of a challenge to them (which means that a creative appraoch is needed to make the topic click!). Ultimately, the feeling of confidence and excitement that my students feel when they've learned something is the most satisfying to me as a tutor.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
During my first session with a student, I like to discuss their expectations of me, concerns that they have with the subject matter, and any ideas of how they learn best or would like to approach our sessions. I believe that my students know their learning style and needs best; my role is to support them through their education by identifying what sorts of exercises, lessons, or support I should use for them. My teaching style, although different depending on the student, remains interactive so that my students are actively engaged with me. I also like to employ different teaching resources depending on what the student seems to grasp the most information from.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
While in high school, I served as a Writing Tutor in our campus's Writing Center. I assisted students from 9th-12th grade in developing esssay outlines, constructing arguments or plotlines, writing rough drafts, and proofreading final papers. I also pursued a Biomedical Sciences path of study while in high school, which has lent to my deep understanding and passion for biology and human sciences. While in college, I studied psychology, Spanish, and entrepreneurship while on the premedical track and have deep knowledge in all of these subjects. Moreover, I continued to edit college admissions essays for students. During this time I began to tutor more seriously, and worked with a number of clients ranging from 2nd grade to adults in topics from math and phonics to public speaking and AP English. As a current medical student, I continue to learn every day and am excited to bring my experiences to student learners!
