About
After a 30-year career in technology and software development, I’m now tutoring math part-time — partly because I love it, and partly because I think too many capable students get convinced early on that they’re “not a math person.” They almost always are. They just need someone to slow down and connect the pieces.
I hold a Master’s in Systems Engineering, took advanced mathematics in college, and scored 780 on the GRE quantitative section. More importantly, I’ve spent three decades actually using math to solve real problems — which means when a student asks “when am I ever going to use this?”, I have honest answers, not platitudes.
I tutor:
• Algebra I & II
• Geometry
• Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry
• Calculus (AP Calc AB/BC and college-level Calc I & II)
• SAT Math, ACT Math, and GRE Quantitative prep
My approach: I work backwards from where a student is actually stuck — which is often a few concepts earlier than the topic on tonight’s homework. We fix the foundation, then the harder material gets noticeably easier. I’m patient, I don’t lecture, and I assume the student is smart (because they are).
First session: We’ll spend the first 15 minutes figuring out what’s going on — recent assignments, upcoming tests, where they feel confident vs. lost. Then we get to work. Parents are welcome to sit in on the first session or check in afterward.
I tutor online, evenings and weekends. I respond to messages within a few hours.
