Frequently asked questions

My tutoring approach is highly dependent on the student and the student's learning style. Before beginning tutoring, I conduct a learning style assessment and tailor different lesson and session plans to the individual's needs as a learner. I welcome student input in what he/she/they enjoy or don't enjoy from past tutors and learning experiences. I love coming up with creative ideas of understanding new concepts, and I would love to develop ways of learning tailored to the student. In addition, I strive to delve deeper into the "why" behind different academic concepts in order to gain a holistic understanding of the material.

I have one year of experience in voluntary tutoring for elementary school students through a program called Peace Neighborhood. At Peace Neighborhood, we would work one-on-one with the students by reading their favorite books to develop comprehension skills and work through mathematical workbooks (oftentimes involving color, patterns, and visual aspects) to develop mathematical comprehension. We would also use this time to work through homework and school assignments. In this setting, I was mostly responsible for tutoring in mathematics and English; however, I was also trained in providing social/emotional support for the student during the process!

My rate is typically $20 an hour.

Look for someone who also wants to get to know you as a person. Learning can be difficult and frustrating, but with the right tutor, who cares about your success and your wellbeing can make learning a really fun experience! A tutor should be willing to look for what works best for their student.

How do you feel when doing your work (stressed, frustrated, content, etc.)?

What are some fun activities that you've done in the past that your teacher can do to make learning more enjoyable?
