About
Hi there! My name is Meghana and I am currently a freshman at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Currently pursuing an English major, I am also on the Pre-Dental track at the university.
In high school I was the Senior Copy Editor of the school newspaper, won three Scholastic Writing Awards for my short stories, and earned the B'nai Brith International Writing Scholarship for a fictional piece. Later on, I graduated as Salutatorian of my 500-student class.
Over the past few years, I have devoted much of my time to tutoring students through The Boys and Girls Club. I taught one to four children at a time, reviewing basic math skills, elementary spelling, reading concepts, and essay writing. My focus includes students in grades K-8, and now with this current pandemic upon us, I am moving my platform online so students can continue learning!
More than teaching itself, I love talking to my students about their own lives. Ranging from sports teams to favorite foods, these more personal conversations strengthen a relationship between student and teacher!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always like to meet my students first via a phone or Skype call! This way we can review together what subject(s) the student wants to master and which study methods work best for the student. I believe three important components of studying to be identifying a timeline, setting a schedule, and identifying a goal. If a student requires accommodations of any kind, I am more than willing and flexible to make arrangements!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As mentioned in my background information, most of my experience relates to the English field (reading, writing, and spelling) and basic math concepts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). My volunteer position at The Boys and Girls Club was a setting similar to online tutoring; I also worked with special needs students here.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My lessons are $35/hour, but if a student has extenuating circumstances I am willing to discuss this price.
How did you get started teaching?
I started volunteering at The Boys and Girls Club, where I realized that i loved teaching K-8 and special needs students!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students in grades K-8 and special needs students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My cousin was born just this February! She is the smallest, cutest little bundle of joy and I love her to pieces!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The first piece of advice I would give a student is to look for a teacher with whom you will be compatible. Do you want someone strict or relaxed, energetic or mellow? Also make sure your tutor of choice is well rehearsed in his or her area of study!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
From a tutor's perspective, we usually want to know two things when we first meet you: what is your timeline and what is your goal?
