Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first begin by getting to know my student so they feel comfortable with me. I find that making a student feel important and comfortable makes their tutoring experience much more effective. They are more likely to ask questions and to make mistakes, which gives me the opportunity to explain how to correct those mistakes.
This usually takes about 10 minutes, and every session from then on starts with taking a couple minutes to ask about the student's day, how they're feeling, etc. before getting into the lesson.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been tutoring since high school, and I have taken classes on early childhood behavior and mental development, as well as a general education theory class and a classroom behavior management class. I have also been working with children in a school setting for four years now.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
In-person private tutoring: $40 per hour
Online tutoring: $35 per hour
Group sessions (online and in-person): $30 per child per hour
How did you get started teaching?
I began tutoring in high school and fell in love with working with children. I initially wanted to be a child psychologist, but after working with children in a school setting I knew that although classroom teaching was not the career for me, I still love working one on one with kids to help them grow.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with primarily elementary and prek children. I have some experience working with middle and high school.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My most recent tutoring student told me during one of our sessions that during her class a few days prior, she went up to the front to answer a fraction problem and explain it to her classmates. This was a topic that she had been having trouble with and we were working on. I was really proud of how far she had come.
