Love Learning
About
I love to teach children. I struggled all through school with an undiagnosed learning disability and I want to stop the pain in other children. Learning is fun if taught well and with kindness. I taught in MCPS for 30+ years and was chosen as an Outstanding Teacher in America. I teach learning disabled children, children who want to give up, and gifted children who want and need a challenge. I have a Masters degree in Special Education, specializing in learning disabilities. Teaching is my love and children are my joy.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to talk to the child and the parents but not at the same time. The child can usually give me a good idea of what is going on with them, how they feel about it, and why they are having trouble.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I taught in MCPS for 30+ years. I taught Kindergarten through third grade, but most of my time was in first and second grade. As a special education teacher, I taught children in all elementary school grades, mostly in reading, written language, and math. Many children needed encouragement and praise as they "broke the code".
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $50 an hour for tutoring. I am happy to talk to parents whenever they want/need information or encouragement. There is no charge. I love what I do and am happy to share that joy with teachers or parents.
How did you get started teaching?
I always wanted to teach. It was great fun for me to help my fellow classmates when I could. In high school, I volunteered several summers working at the Episcopal Home for Children in Washington, DC, helping with the program there. It was great fun to assist and helped me decide that teaching was my joyl Many of the children had special needs and I loved seeing them blossom. I loved their smiles as they succeeded.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with all children. Many of the students that I taught were gifted and I always enjoyed supplementing the school program with opportunities for the students to do investigations that fulfill their curiosity. Because writing can be difficult they can choose another way to share their findings and I am delighted.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was in the grocery store standing in a line to check out. All of a sudden there was a man at my feet looking up at me. He said, "Do you remember me?" It was a student that I'd taught many years ago and I was so touched that he said hello and so amused by his being on his knees in order to relive his size as a young child. The whole area of the store stopped to watch and seemed as happy as I was for the sweet way this man said hello to his old teacher!
