About

I am a former university professor and an expert on all aspects of English and on the social sciences. I taught at the university level for about 20 years and then at a private school for 15. I have tutored at all levels - pre-school, elementary, middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate and professional - since 2007. I help students in many subjects and I enjoy helping all ages and levels to learn and accomplish their goals.

I have researched and taught all aspects of English language: speaking, reading, writing, listening, pronunciation, vocabulary, speech-making, literature, analysis, business and professional English. I have also studied and taught mathematics, the humanities, and the social and natural sciences, at both the public school and university levels. I help students study whichever topic they like or need: mathematics, science, engineering, government and politics, management, philosophy, religion, history, literature...

I also teach Test Preparation, for TOEFL, IELTS, Praxis, SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT and others. I can help you earn the score you want and need.

If you tell me what you would like to study, I can help you to understand, speak, write and take tests about it.

Steven is one of the best LSAT tutors I have ever had. He takes the time in order to assess you as an individual and understand the way you think, so that he could tailor his tutoring service specifically for your needs. He is extremely patient with his students and ensures that you understand a specific question type or strategy. He has helped me build the fundamental skills I need in order to tackle each section on the LSAT. Lastly, he truly cares for his students and wants to see them improve and grow with each tutoring session and I am so thankful to have him as my tutor!

I have been studying philosophy with Steven for about 8 months, and it has been a great educational experience. He provides insightful guidance and support without simply spoon-feeding the ideas to you. I feel that I have not only gained an understanding of Greek and Existentialist philosophy, but have also become an improved critical reader of philosophical texts.

Steven is by far the best tutor I’ve ever come across. He is very knowledgeable and is willing to teach people of all skill levels. He makes it a point to understand each of his students so that he’s able to help them as much as possible. I have nothing but respect for him and his approach to teaching. While being a tutor, Steven has also been an amazing advisor for me to figure out how to proceed with my graduate school and future career. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs a tutor. He’s wonderful to work with and a great life coach!

He’s one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. He doesn’t only help with topics that you do not understand, make sure you have understood them and provide good work materials but he also adds facts that are related to the topic which I personally think makes the classes more interesting. Finally, besides being a great teacher, he was also a great advisor since I didn’t know what specific major I wanted to study and he helped me find it according to the abilities he could see in me. Best teacher ever!

    Frequently asked questions

Often, in order to determine the proper teaching strategy, I need to do some diagnostic testing of the student. This is informal and involves a series of exercises that allow me to evaluate the student’s skills and skill level. Once this is done, we can proceed to attain the student’s goals.

Nearly 20 years as a university professor. 15 years as a teacher in a private school. Private tutoring since 2007.
The minimum rate is $45/hour. Advanced topics might require an increased rate. Agreeing to pay for multiple classes in advance might lower the rate.
I began teaching student athletes in my university when I studied for my second degree. Then I volunteered to teach local high school students. I became a full-time teacher once I started graduate school.
I have worked with all ages from 5 years old to 85 years old. I have taught elementary, middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate and professional levels to many many students. I have taught students with mild learning disabilities and some with severe disabilities. I have studied a great deal of the psychology of learning, teaching, language, assessment (test-making and test-taking), etc.
I recently learned that one of my former students went on to graduate study at Oxford University, then Harvard Law School, and recently became the attorney general of his state. On the other hand, I have been happy to learn that all of the law school test prep students I have taught in the last 5 years have been accepted into very good law schools.
Have a conversation with me about what you want to learn.
