Deanna Hunzelmann
About
Hi, I'm Deanna! I have many years of experience in education and I love teaching! I'm excited to begin adding new students to my tutoring roster. I received my undergraduate degree in 2006 from Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Piano. I went back to school and received my Master's degree in 2014 from Johns Hopkins University in Special Education. At the completion of this degree, I was certified to teach in the state of Maryland.
I taught at a private school for students with special needs for 13 years. During this time, I taught students from grades K-6 with a variety of learning differences. I planned for and instructed a variety of subjects including Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Writing. During my years here, I also did private tutoring sessions for several students as well as conducted small group music classes. In addition, I have spent the last couple of years teaching English reading and writing online to students overseas. During this time, I earned my TEFL certificate. Other teaching experience includes several years of teaching private piano lessons and elementary group music classes.
Throughout all of these experiences, I have taught a variety of students of many ages, backgrounds, and abilities. I love learning about the interests of my students and building a connection and rapport with each of them. No matter what subject I'm tutoring, I do my best to connect the work to the lives of my students to make it interesting and fun. I am also able to differentiate my lessons to meet the abilities of each student, and enjoy making my classes multi-sensory to accommodate a variety of learning styles. I have often received positive feedback from students and their families regarding my patience, ability to connect and build rapport, and my fun and effective lessons. I am receptive to feedback, suggestions, and ideas. I look forward to hearing from you soon to schedule a class!
