Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Working with new students I typically will get to know them first and assess how they learn best and what they know by having them fill out a kick student voice survey. I also like to identify their strengths and areas of growth.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was trained in an education program where I am dual certified in Science & Social Studies and completed internships and student teaching for both content areas.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I typically charge a base of $35 per hour per student.
How did you get started teaching?
I am significantly younger than my two oldest siblings and my oldest sister is a Biology teacher. I would go to work with her at times and I really enjoyed the learning environment she created and I found that I also enjoyed helping students reach their potential.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with many different types of students. Montgomery County Maryland is one of the most diverse areas in the country. In addition, I have worked with all types of learners- general education, gifted, students with higher needs, even students with autism (10 in one of my supported classes).
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Two come to mind- the 8th grade field trip I planned for the entire grade (450 students). It was great seeing students in a setting where they were just having fun. The second event would be the 8th grade graduation where students recieved awards and were recognized for their hard work during this turbulent year. Students were extremely happy and I was so proud of their accomplishments.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advice would be to find a tutor that can not only teach you the content- but also understands you as a student and how you learn best and what you are passionate about.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are my strengths?
Which areas do I need to improve on?
Have I explored all of my options to assess the problem before asking for assistance?
