About

If your child is struggling, we need to be talking right now. The literacy and academic success of my students is my primary focus. Throughout the pandemic I provided the comprehensive instruction needed to make them successful students when they returned to the classroom. I'm "old school" meaning that I teach my students the traditional phonics skills needed for word recognition and comprehension. They learn. They make significant progress. Call me at 443-621-0002 if you are serious about your child's academic success, I'll put you on my spring 2023 schedule. Day, night and weekend options are available. However, consistency is important. I cannot provide intermittent instruction. Weekly sessions are critical to short term success.

Seeing my students go from "struggling" to "proficient" is absolutely thrilling. It's so worth the investment you make in their academic success. It is most gratifying to see students who have been "written off" by the schools excel at levels that no one ever expected. And I'm very old school (traditional) and more importantly, I'm a "result" oriented person. The franchises cannot beat me at this job! I integrate handwriting, spelling and grammar in my literacy instruction! Day, night and weekend options are available.

    Frequently asked questions

I am President and CEO of The Little "Read" School House. I personally provide thorough  "one on one" instruction in diagnostic, remedial, corrective reading and developmental reading, as well as, decoding skills, phonemic awareness, word recognition skills and comprehension. These skills are critical to student academic success. I'm also trained to work with students with severe disabilities , such as dyslexia. I'm a curriculum and instruction specialist and an academic coach. I also prepare students for GED, PSAT and SAT tests. My instruction is very comprehensive and effective.

My professional materials are expertly developed, highly personalized, customized and individualized. Additional instruction is provided in comprehension strategies, which include "common core", critical and higher-order thinking skills. Test taking strategies are incorporated in my instruction process. Twice weekly sessions are highly recommended for best results. Results will vary depending on the frequency of instruction.  I’m not cheap, quick or gimmicky! But I'm more reasonable than the pricey franchises. Also, I do not provide intermittent service. Frequent cancellations will also affect results.  Consistency is very important to success. My sessions are 60 minutes in length. I expect my students to complete assigned home work. This practice is an integral part of the learning process for my students. I assure you that I will make your child a successful student! I'm the tutor that you want. And yes, I do teach mathematic numeracy.

I have been a member  and officer of the International Reading (Literacy) Association since 1982, as well as the State of Maryland International Reading (Literacy) Association.

All lessons are always in your home and are priced $50 -$70 depending on the distance I have to travel. It is an investment in the academic success of your child.

I graduated from college cum laude in 1965 with a degree in elementary education and started teaching 4th grade. I was an exemplary teacher from day 1.

I have worked with all types of students, including students diagnosed as being dyslexic,  in my career from grades k through 12 and beyond. I have been an adjunct professor at several local colleges and universities, including Morgan State and Bowie State.

Just last week one of my parents told me that she had seen a change in her child in about 3 instructional sessions. She noticed his increased confidence. I tell all of my students that they are smart. I make them feel like winners. They blossom and achieve!

Look at people's credentials. You don't have time, especially now, for people with no experience out to make a few quick bucks. They can do you more harm than good. I assure you. I won't disappoint you.

Most students in need of tutoring know that they are not performing up to the same level of their peers. During the initial informal assessment they start to reveal their strengths and weaknesses. As a learning specialist, I address them in my instructional plan.
