About

I am a teacher having taught 25 years. I am married and have one artist daughter living in Zurich, Switzerland. My pedagogy focuses on fun innovative ways to help make learning enjoyable.

I have taught in many school systems throughout my 25 years of teaching. I've taught all subjects from grades 3-5. Nevertheless, I think grade 3 has been my favorite, although I have found all of my students from each grade engaging, fun to teach, and typically excited about the lessons being delivered. Each and every student I've taught has always received special attention based on their learning style, needs, and wants. I say "wants", because there's always more to learning than what's in a book. All types of learning must be included in any lesson plan to reach all types of learners. As a teacher, although I've been known as a fun teacher, I have found that it is important to bring joy to learning.

While teaching at Roland Park Country School in Baltimore, I taught 2-4th grade. I won a Parents Appreciation Award during my 4th grade year.

While teaching at Sandy Spring Friends School, I began there teaching in the 4th grade, where I developed a science, social studies based on American History, and a reading curriculum for 4th and 5th graders. These lessons were very hands-on and engaging for the variety of learners in my classes. Many of my students enjoyed the interactive lessons.

When I moved to Fourth grade at Sandy Spring Friends School, I developed the science and social studies programs. Both of these classes incorporated reading, writing, science, and math based on what students were learning in those particular subjects. It allowed the students to integrate their learning across the curriculum. In addition, because of the culturally diverse backgrounds of my students and their families, I implemented and headed a Diversity Committee for our Lower School students. We studied many cultures in fun, hands-on, engaging ways in which family members enjoyed being involved. My pedagogy centers around the fact that there is always interest, fun, determination, hard work, perseverance, patience, excitement to bring about the hunger for more learning experiences.

There has been nothing more satisfying in my 25 years of teaching then getting to know my parents and their children.... and to see the satisfaction and smile on their faces when their child wants to talk about and explain what they've learned each day. I've been known from my parents and students as "the creative" teacher.

I am a graduate of Howard University undergrad; a Masters in the Arts of Teaching from Queens College, Charlotte, North Carolina; I also am a certified Paraeducator for Special Ed students where I've assisted in classrooms in the public school system. Please review my resume for more information, and I hope I can be of service to parents and their children.

I enjoy helping children learn and seeing how gratified they become when they finally understand an academic problem. I also enjoy interactive lessons in which they can use their imagination and skills to build their understanding in any subject.

    Frequently asked questions

When I'm working with students I find it very important to get to know how they are as a learner. For instance, some students learn best working by themselves, others may prefer working with a partner, while  others Work best with an activity incorporated into the lesson, etc.  Therefore, I use preliminary activities ( asking questions, holding a small class discussion about various subjects, allowing students to express their appropriate likes and dislikes freely, and helping students to focus on their own learning styles. I believe once students understand their own style of learning, then their approach to lessons becomes more automatic and allows their confidence to take charge of what they know.

I have taught for 25 years and have taught language arts (reading, writing, spelling, math, science). I have also developed curriculum for these subjects for grades 3-5.  3rd and 4th grades are the grades I've taught the most. I've taught at two private schools, and am now registered wit Montgomery County Public School System for Paraeducating, and substituting.

I am a graduate from Howard University with a Bachelors Degree of Science degree. I also graduated from Queens College in North Carolina with a Masters Degree in Teaching. I enjoy writing poetry, sewing, traveling, and learning new things each day!

A standard pricing system at this point aligns with common costs for tutoring students in separate subjects, depending on the need of the student. My tutoring lessons should not exceed an hour per subject or lesson. Feedback is always welcome.

I attended Queens College in North Carolina and received a Masters in teaching. Therefore, after graduation I began teaching grades 3-5.

I have worked with children with a variety of learning styles and needs.  I have adjusted my lessons in the classes that I've taught to meet the needs of the individual child when necessary.

There are many events that I have created to extend student learning. The most enjoyable lessons I've developed and taught are; The 20th Century Decades lessons; these lessons were incorporated in all subjects.  I also enjoyed working on the Diversity Committee to help other teachers incorporate fun lessons on diversity for grades 3-5.
