About
I was not always in love with reading. I struggled with focus and attention. That was until I was introduced to a book I could enjoy. Let me help your child grow a love of reading and increase their reading level. I am a licensed and certified teacher specializing in reading and learning the English language. Having 14 years of classroom experience, I know how to help children grow in reading confidence.
I absolutly love what I do. I love making connections with children and believe that forming a trusting relationship is a cornerstone to learning. In my lessons I make sure to provide little breaks here and there, to provide praise and encouragement for the things that they are doing well. I take note of their struggles and we work on that the next time. I am very careful about what errors I share with children, not wanting to break their positive feeling about reading and our work together. I ALWAYS share the positive!

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in 2007 right out of college. I've been working with children in grades K-5 in all subject areas including reading, phonics, basic math, number sences, and other elementary subject areas.
In 2021 i left teaching to persue tutoring full time. I love getting to know new students and being someone that they know will support them in their journey to becoming a proficient reader.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work very well with students who are neurotypical as well as nerodivergent. As a person with ADHD I know how to keep the pace going so your child will get as much as possible from our lessons.
I also use a gentle touch when working with students with Autism. I work around their superpowers to help them succeed.
I have worked with students from all walks of life. The students I have worked with have come to me struggling with their phonics and reading comprehension. These students have grown their reading levels under my personalized and caring instruction.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
This past week one of my 1st grade students was reading her weekly book with me. We paused to talk a little more while we were reading. During that session she read her fastest most fluent sentence. We paused and cheered. We were both so excited for her growth!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When looking for a tutor for reading and phonics instruction it is important to look for someone who has training in the areas you child has needs.
Your child deserves the best and a tutor with training knows how to provide the best.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think through your biggest concerns for your child. You'll want to be able to share what you see going on. Focus on finding a tutor that can meet the needs of your WHOLE child. Not just their learning needs but also their emotional needs as a struggling learner.
Also, take time to think of all the great things your child can do? What are their superpowers? Make sure that you mention these to the tutor you speak with so they will be able to use their strengths to bring growth the their weaknesses.
