I love creating 'aha' moments for my students: the moment when my student has reached an understanding of a challenging concept and finally 'gets it.'
These aha moments boost self-confidence and transform my students' lives. I love when they are succeeding so well that they don't need me anymore.

How did you get started teaching?
Katerina never considered herself smart, even after being accepted to JHU. Her lack of self-confidence led her to eventually fail Organic Chemistry in her sophomore year, causing her to consider leaving JHU altogether. It wasn't until retaking the course with Dr. Falzone that she learned not only of her true potential to succeed academically but also of her ability to help other students achieve their goals too. She became a tutor for the Johns Hopkins Learning Den in 2015, and has tutored hundreds of students ever since. Professionalism to a tee, great creativity and never without a smile, Katerina hopes to keep inspiring students to dream big and never stop believing in themselves.
What types of students have you worked with?
Shy and minority college students and high school students
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. Know EXACTLY what you need help with. Make a list of concepts you're struggling with so your teacher/tutor can provide targeted advice and study strategies for you.
2. Are you getting enough sleep? Going to class? Do you take notes? Can you tell what you're confused about from your notes?
3. What is your current strudy strategy?
4.Have you taken the class before? What did you do right? What did you do wrong? What did you learn from that experience?
5. Are there any other life factors that could be contributing to the difficulty of this class for you? (i.e. learning disability, student job, family, relationship, illness, etc.) How are you managing these other factors? Are you reaching out to student support services?
