About

My name is Sunny and I have been a tutor for many years since college back in 2009. I have extensive education in the sciences in a variety of different fields. I am a doctor of medicine with previous degrees in Biochemistry and the Biomedical Sciences. I have always enjoyed working with students and adore teaching pupils for their interest. I dedicate whatever I can to help them succeed. Whether it is to get ahead, gain confidence, or simply to get a better understanding of concepts, I will try my best to help you succeed. I have a large number of resources available to me to ensure that all the material I assist students with is not only up to date, but also correct. If you are interested in obtaining tutoring from me, please feel free to drop me an email in the inbox!

Thanks!

Frequently asked questions

My process begins with discussing the academic needs of the student alone with them and then their parents if needed. This provides me with an idea about the goals and concerns parents and the student have with respect to their education. Then working together I explain and provide recommendations to what study habits need to be modified to help students improve their performance. I also work with students to review material thoroughly before exams and even ask students if there is anything that was not explained well or not clarified in their teaching. I thoroughly review items until I can appreciate the student's confidence and proper understanding in a subject area. I also encourage discussion regarding any concerns, providing feedback in what they are not satisfied, and more  so we can be most efficient with our time together. I also sit down with students and make a plan together to allow students to learn in a stress-free mindset to maximize their learning. I make it my top priority to work at the student's yet reasonable pace to help them succeed.

I have a BS in Biochemistry from Stony Brook University. I also have an MS in Biomedical Sciences from Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School. In addition to this, I recently graduated from medical school in Ireland, from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. I am interested in pursuing a career in surgery in the US in the future and am using my time from graduation and residency to gain better work experience and prepare for my future career. I have tutored throughout my entire educational experience from college all through medical school helping students in Biochemistry, Biology, Cell Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and more!

Because of my qualifications, I charge a base price of 35 USD per hour and a maximum of 1.5 hours to each student per session. If we do online tutoring, the rate will drop down to 30 USD per hour and a maximum of 1.5 hours per session. There is no restriction on the number of sessions have scheduled with me. The more sessions that are scheduled and completed with me, the better the rate of my tutoring sessions.

The best way to schedule all times is to openly discuss with me, either in person or online, what you are seeking to achieve by the end of our tutoring sessions. From there, we can decide how many sessions will be needed. If you schedule a lesson, I must have at least 1-week prior notice to the actual date of teaching. Likewise, the latest you can cancel a session is 1 week in advance. If you schedule a session and decide to cancel later there is no problem as long as it is within the designated time frame. If cancellations occur within 1 week of the scheduled time, a 15 USD penalty will be charged per session. The reason is that another student may also need tutoring for that same time slot but because a cancellation was done in such short notice, that other student will have lost their opportunity to meet with me. If there are any extenuating circumstances, I am always more than happy to make exceptions to this rule. I take all forms of payment, but preferably check or cash would be best.

I began teaching when I was able to help my classmates during our study sessions together in college for chemistry. Many of my colleagues above continuously pointed out that I have a natural ability to explain things in a concise, easy, and wonderful manner to help students learn subjects well. I began to take tutoring more seriously when I began tutoring for the Education Opportunity Program for the State of New York. I would help students from disadvantaged or underserved communities who required tutoring to maintain their academic standing and more for their university degree. Many of my students transformed their grades from failing to A's by the end of the semester.
