About
Hello! My name is Sandra Sanders, and education is an essential part of who I am. I wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember, and I have been lucky enough to be an educator for over thirty years. I have taught a diverse number of classes (college prep, SAT prep, AP Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition, inclusion, language literacy, written expression, and executive function), while working with a wide age and range of learners (students with dyslexia and other related language-based learning differences, Special Education, ESOL, honors, and gifted).
After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a secondary teacher certification from Stony Brook University, I began my career as a high school classroom teacher in a New York public school. Upon earning my Master’s Degree in Children’s and Adolescent Literature, I relocated to Maryland, where I have served as a public high school and independent school English teacher and English Department Chairperson. A former Charles County Teacher of the Year and National Board Certified teacher, I hold a current English 7-12 Advanced Professional Certification in Maryland.
Currently, I am completing my Ph.D. at Maryland University of Notre Dame. I maintain a strong passion for teaching and lifelong learning. When I am not teaching, I love to read and write, to run, and to spend time with my family.
I am committed to excellence, and I enjoy helping students work towards their educational success through highly personalized tutoring. If you visit my website, you will see the various services that I offer: https://www.bookittutoring.com/

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process for working with a new student is to get to know one another and to establish how I can best meet the student's needs. My role as a tutor is to help each student learn the process for problem solving and to build his or her confidence and content knowledge.
