  • Kathy is such a great tutor. Very patient and connects well with my daughter. My daughter doesn't like reading and was having a very difficult time learning. But she looks forward to each session with Kathy and has improved her reading skills and confidence greatly in just a few weeks. Others have noticed as well. She's been such an amazing help to my daughter.
  • I was looking for a reading tutor for my 6 year old daughter (who has recently been diagnosed with dyslexia and low cognitive levels) and we found Ms. Kathy. She has been so patient with my daughter but knows how hard to push her to get the best out of her. My daughter asks me each day if we get to see Ms. Kathy today and when it’s not her day she says well I miss her and want to play. When your child considers working on something that comes hard to them “play” you know you found the correct person. We highly recommended Ms. Kathy
  • “We discovered a teacher who began connecting with her.  She was able to make the day fun and bring some joy into it”
  • “She was able to help the kids learn and adapt to what she was doing to the needs and abilities of where her kids were.”

  • “I am thrilled to highly recommended Kathy to you and your children.”

  • “couldn’t wait to go to her class because they felt a level of success that would frequently elude them in other settings.”

  • “stands out as someone who cares deeply for the students whom she teaches.”

  • “She is passionate about her subject matter and wants every child to succeed and to feel valued.”

  • “She would re-teach the concepts as necessary and utilize strategies to reach each student.”

  • “always displayed patience, understanding and a sense of humor that put them at ease immediately.”

She’s been so great with my daughter and has helped her reading tremendously. She’s very patient and kind and gets to know her students to further connect with and help them.

I entered her class with a kindergarten read level in fifth grade. By the time I left her class, I was reading on grade level and soon reading and writing became my strongest area of academics. She taught me how to look for different solutions to a problem. Giving up was never an option but looking for a new path to the solution was one of the most important skills I ever learned from her. It's because of her that I am now in college. She always the right level of encouragement, pushing, and acceptance that allowed me to grow.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I begin by talking to the parent about what their child's needs are and their goal for acquiring my tutoring service.  We then set up a time that I can assess the child.  From there we talk again and I give them my results and recommendations.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am certified in both Elementary and Special Education.  I have a Master's degree.

I am a Wilson Dyslexia Practioner and I am trained in many other specialized programs.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I charge $75 an hour. All payments are set up on an automatic payment with PayPal.  You can choose weekly, biweekly, or monthly.  If you choose more than one session a week there is a discount as more the more days are added.

How did you get started teaching?

I grew up knowing that I wanted to be a teacher (I even made my brother "play school" lol).  Through high school and college I worked in various positions at a residential school.  After college I stayed there until I found a teaching job.  I was SO excited to finally be living my dream!

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with students with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, behavior disorder, etc.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I am fond of talking to a previous student that is now in college to be a teacher and credits me for being one of the most influential people in her life.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
