AK Tutoring
About
My name is Alyssa, and I’m entering my first year as a medical student at Rush Medical College! I am very well versed in mathematics, science, and physics, however, I also remember the days when I found these topics incredibly challenging and thought that I would never feel comfortable with them. English was always my strongest subject, but when I decided I wanted to become a doctor, I realized that I needed to figure out a way of mastering my math and science courses. These subjects did not come naturally to me, but after lots of hard work throughout high school and college, I found simple ways of understanding these topics and soon began tutoring my peers.
When I work with students, I break complicated topics down into smaller, more digestible pieces in order to prevent stress and boost confidence. I believe that when working on topics that a student finds challenging, we often have to revisit the basics and master foundational skills before moving on. I’ve found that this not only creates a less daunting learning experience, but that many students begin to enjoy subjects that they once hated! This is ultimately one of my main goals and favorite things about being a tutor, as is giving students the tools necessary to succeed in other subjects through identifying the type of learning and studying that works best for them.
