Middle And High School Tutor
About
As a Secondary Education and History major, I have a passion for teaching and learning that I want to help instill in others. I've also have a lot of experience teaching History and English to large groups as well as one-on-one sessions with my student teaching experience at Independent Day School in Middlefield (CT), McCall Middle School in Winchester (MA), Beverly Middle School in Beverly(MA), and Everett High School in Everett (MA). Having passed my Communication/Literature MTEL as well as my History MTEL, I feel confident that I can provide a valuable tutoring experience!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to first start by getting to learn the student's learning style; this will help me better fit their needs in a way that suits them best. I then usually move on to look at the issues they may have with their work, focusing on whether the issue is part of a larger problem or simply a small misunderstanding.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
MTEL in Com/Lit
MTEL in History
Teaching experience in English and History (middle and high school)
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I typically charge $30 an hour for one student and $15 an hour for any additional student
How did you get started teaching?
I started by working in camps, finding my love of helping others. I realized that this love of helping others as well as my interest in learning would best translate itself in a job as teacher.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with middle and high schoool students with IEPs, 504s, and ELLs (English Language Learners)
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
At my most recent job at Everett High School, I was talking with a student in my sheltered history classroom. He was new to the country and was having a hard time communicating with the main teacher in the class. Noticing that he spoke Spanish, I started to talk with him (as I know a bit of Spanish) and found that he completely opened up; he talked about his love of history and why he thinks it is so important to learn. Seeing him be able to finally communicate with someone showed me how tough language barriers can be but every student is capable of learning.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone that you feel comfortable with! While I or other teachers may not know the answer to every question, it is important that you feel like you can rely on us to help you work through a problem!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about what their main goals are; what do they want to accomplish by having a teacher help them with their needs.
