About

Hi, I'm Shannon, and I'm here to help you achieve your test prep goals! I graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in 2009 and from Brown University with a M.A. in Education Policy in 2014. I've been teaching and tutoring the SAT for over a decade, and have significant experience with the ACT and GRE as well.

We have two options for structuring our tutoring time together, depending on your needs.

Option 1: Crash Course - A general overview of the test structure, format, question types, and strategies. If you only have a couple of weeks before the test and you have limited experience with it, this is the option I’d recommend. You’ll get a high level “crash course” overview of everything you need to know for test day. I'd recommend that we spend at least 4 tutoring hours with this option, but we can cater to your needs.

Option 2: Student-centered and data driven - We'll start by assessing your strengths and weaknesses to craft an individualized study plan that matches your needs. My tutoring method is focused on both high-level strategies for each section as well as pinpointing specific areas for further work and improvement. We'll work together to fill in the knowledge and strategy gaps that are necessary to help you achieve your target score.

Excited to meet you and help you with your goals! Please reach out if you have any questions.

Frequently asked questions

Typically students will take a diagnostic assessment first so that I can analyze the areas on which we should spend our time. We'll spend the first session discussing goals and putting together a study plan, as well as talking about some big-picture test-taking strategies. In subsequent sessions, we'll deep dive into material to bring students up to mastery on each topic assessed on the SAT. Of course, I'm happy to cater our process and plans depending on your needs.

A former public school teacher, I started working with the SAT in 2011, and have continued teaching the SAT over the last decade. I have taught the SAT in classroom settings, small groups, and one-on-one, both in person or online.

Initial online tutoring session is $65. Subsequent sessions are $90 per hour.

I began teaching right out of college in 2010, and started teaching the SAT as a summer job.

In test preparation, I've worked with students as young as middle school and up through college. Some students come to me having never seen an SAT before or know what it entails, while others come to me for help after they've taken it a few times already, wanting to increase their score that last little bit. Every student is different and has unique needs, which is why I tailor SAT studying programs to each individual student.

Some questions I'll ask you during our first session:

- Have you ever taken an official SAT or practice SAT before? What were your scores?

- What are your score goals? Why are these your goals?

- What is your schedule like? How much time are you ready to devote to studying for the SAT?

- Do you have an SAT scheduled? When do you plan on taking it?

- What do you see as your strengths and weaknesses on the exam?

- Do you have any specific areas you already know you would like to target?

- How many times a week are you looking for tutoring?
