About

I am a teacher with three years of experience teaching students in kindergarten, first, second, third and fourth grade. I am certified to teach grades Pre-K through 3rd grade in Louisiana, and my Massachusetts teaching certification is pending. I have a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education from Tulane University and I graduated with a 3.8 GPA. My specialty is reading and I am very skilled at bringing students below grade level up to grade level. I collect data constantly to target my instruction to particular students needs, identifying specific phonics patterns, high frequency words, and comprehension skills that students struggle with. I am also familiar with other content areas and would be happy to help your student in math, science, or social studies as well. Being a teacher, I have experience working with students who have special needs and communicating with other teachers and parents regularly to maximize a student's growth.

I am have always enjoyed books and words, I love sharing the things I love the most with kids! Nothing makes me happier than seeing a child have that eureka moment as a concept clicks in their mind, or seeing a child so engrossed in their book that they can't put it down. No matter how behind a student may be, they are capable of making remarkable growth and I just love watching their confidence grow as they realize they can do it. I track students growth with them in very tangible ways so that they can take ownership of their own learning, putting the child in charge of setting a goal for themselves, and figuring out how to get there.

Frequently asked questions

I always begin by building rapport with students, and laying out some simple structures for our time together. Showing interest in a student's family and hobbies can go a long way. I like to have students tell me what goals they have for themselves and brainstorm together what we need to do to meet those goals. Then I introduce simple reward systems and rules that we agree on together and sign.

I graduated from Tulane University in 2016 with a degree in Psychology and Early Childhood Education and a teaching liscence in Louisiana. Since then I have taken all the necessary MTEL tests to apply for licensure in Massachusetts which is currently pending. I elected to do a full year of student teaching to hone my skills better before moving on to my own classroom. This school year I was a stubstitute teacher for the first half of the year and a second grade teacher in the second half of the year.

Since I teach full time I am new to tutoring outside of school, so I have not yet established a set price system. I am looking to earn around $20 an hour but I can be flexible with this depending on how we meet for the sessions. If the student travels to me or we use video chat for example I could tutor for as little is $15 an hour.

I have always been facinated with child development, it was truly always my fate to work with kids. I volunteered in my church nursery from the age of eleven onward, babysat all through middle school, and took child development classes in high school with volunteer hours at a local preschool. From there I started my degree in early childhood education and I was just hooked. Nothing is more inspiring that seeing how much a child can grow and thrive with the proper support, and nothing is more rewarding either. I truly cannot imagine myself doing anything else.

I have experience with kids of all ages and across all subjects. I've taught many english language learners, students with reading disabilities, speech impairments, ADHD and other mild special needs in a general education setting. I have also worked with students who have a trauma background and need extra support emotionally in order to behave well.
