I taught English 15 years at Noble and Greenough school, mostly to juniors and seniors.
I developed an approach to writing designed to address students' dislike of writing as meaningless hoop-jumping; instead, i think the creative apaect of all writing, even essays on literature, is essential.
Finally, my hope is that every student recognizes the importance of his or her voice as unique, and that it deserves to be refelcted in writing.
Having retired from teaching, I sit at home with my two newly adopted kittens, Pish and Brio, and spend hours writing. I couldn't be happier.
But the pandemic has created great difficulty for lots of people, so maybe I can help some kids with their writing.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
1) learn what the student wants to learn or improve
2) try to understand what has gotten in the way of the student's development in English and writing
3) assign or ask for a sample of writing
4) help the student recognize clarities and confusions in the sample
5) help student become an effective editor of his/her own writing

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rate is $100 / hour, assuming that is not a barrier to my helping a client. If it is, I am flexible.
How did you get started teaching?
My career has always been focused on teaching, both as a coach of rowing at all levels, through counseling, and classrooms in secondary, college, and graduate levels. Only late in my career did I realize that two teachers, one in my seventh grade, another a colleague, modeled what I have tried to be for others as those two were for me.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught students from those struggling mightily with impediments to their learning--ADD, depression, poor fundamental training, family issues--to those performing at the highest levels.
