Step Up Math Tutoring
About
I have 18 years of experience as a math teacher, including extensive familiarity with the math curriculum from upper elementary school through algebra 1. Patience and the ability to break down math concepts are my strengths. Additionally, I have worked with students at all ability levels, including those with learning and developmental differences.
I love seeing students improve in their understanding of math. I am always thrilled to see students have the "ah-ha" moment of understanding a difficult concept.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will meet with the student (and parent if a child) to determine what their needs are and if they have a particular goal. I will also adminisiter a short diagnostic assessment to determine the student's current math skills in the desired area/level.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching math in public schools in Massachusetts for the last 18 years. During the majority of that time, I've taught middle school grades 5 through 8, including algebra 1. However, I also have some experience teaching geometry and algebra 2, as well as tutoring high school students.
I earned a B.A. in economics, including significant math coursework, from Smith College. I also have a Master of Arts in Teaching from Simmons University. I hold licenses in Massachusetts to teach math in grades 1-12.
