Hi, my name is Emma and I believe that I’m very well equipped to help you, or your son / daughter when it comes to tutoring English!

I have an English degree from St Andrews, one of the most prestigious universities in the UK, and this entailed frequent essay deadlines and a dissertation in my final year.

I therefore become very confident in the act of comprehension and reading analytically, as well writing persuasively and concisely, selecting evidence carefully and using it effectively in order to make my argument as strong as possible. This also required a consistent consideration of grammar and vocabulary choices, recognizing not only how important they were when analyzing meaning in a text but also how they should be employed skillfully in an essay to make sure that what is being said is presented in as credible a manner as possible.

I also have tutoring experience; most recently helping a student complete her Masters dissertation on children’s literature, looking at texts such as ‘Alice in Wonderland’ through a psychoanalytic and eco critical lens.

I hope you are interested in considering me as a tutor; it’s a responsibility that I take very seriously, ensuring that the student is pushed so that they challenge themselves and reach their full potential, but that a gentle, encouraging approach is maintained at the same time, so that hopefully tutoring can be something fun as well as constructive.
