About

I am a former HS Earth Science and Chemistry teacher with Massachusetts teaching licenses for grades 5-12 in both content areas. I love helping students understand the world around them and see science as a relevant part of everyday life. My favorite moments are the "aha"s that come when students see that "Yes, I can do science too!". With nearly 20 years of experience in public school education I have developed a broad range of tools to help all students be successful in science.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I like to first schedule a 20-minute introductory call either via phone or video call to get to know each other a bit and to help me understand why you are seeking a tutor. I'll share a bit about my background and style to see if we will be a good match to work together. If we think this will work then we will schedule our first session either in-person or via Zoom.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have worked in public education for 20 years as a high school science teacher (chemistry, Earth science, & environmental science), instructional coach, curriculum director, and high school assistant principal.

$40/30 minutes $70/60 minutes

What types of students have you worked with?

All! I have taught college preparatory science and have designed and taught a conceptual chemistry course. I have taught both in-person and on-line.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Get help early, particularly in chemistry! The concepts build on each other so small gaps in your knowledge in November become gaping holes in January, which become seemingly insurmountable challenges in February. However, with some regular intervention I can help get you back on track and successful in your class.
