Hello!

I am an experienced teacher shifting my workload primarily to tutoring while I stay home with my young children this school year. Last year, I worked as a learning specialist in a K-8 school and I spent 6 years teaching English in the classroom before that. I am a MA licensed English teacher and will be finished with my Master's degree in Education in just a few months, earning my MA Reading license and Orton-Gillingham certification. I have extensive experience with reading intervention and executive functioning skill development. I believe that we all have the capacity to learn, and we must honor our neurodiversity. I love watching students have "aha" moments as they push themselves to conquer challenging work.

Depending on the student's particular needs, I will start with an assessment to get a better sense of strengths and areas of opportunity. If a student is struggling with reading, I will put together an age-appropriate assessment based on the five foundational building blocks of reading to determine where the student is struggling. Then, I will focus instruction in that area and use informal assessments to monitor progress, modifying instruction as needed.
I have a degree and MA teaching license in English, SEI endorsement, and I am currently on the tail end of my graduate program which includes Orton-Gillingham certification and MA teaching licenses for both Reading and ESL. I have worked as a teacher and tutor for 6 years, starting in the high school English classroom. In my current position as a learning specialist, I have a variety of responsibilities including reading intervention, social-emotional learning, and executive functioning skill development from students in preschool to 8th grade.
Lessons are typically priced at $70/hr due to my level of experience and education. I am happy to work with families on pricing as needed.
