Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with new students, I like to take the first lesson/trial lesson to get to know the student's learning style and interests so that I can personally tailor the class to the student's needs. In our first lesson, I will give you an interest survey, talk to you about your interests, and determine your goals for learning Spanish. This way, I will be prepared and engaging when we move forward!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education and Spanish, a TEFL certification, a NH State Spanish Teacher certification, and will soon have my Master's degree in Curriculum and Teaching (finish date: July 5, 2021). I participate in frequent professional development on foreign language education and am always looking to improve my teaching capabilities.

How did you get started teaching?
I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, but when I took my first year of Spanish in high school, I fell in love with learning languages. I have always wanted to help students connect more with the world around them. Learning another language can truly change how you view the world and I want to bring my passion for language learning to all students!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students. I have worked with children as young as 5 to adults as old as 80. I have worked in an online setting, hybrid setting, and in person setting. I have worked with scholars and students with intellectual diabilities and students of all skillsets. These experiences are why I think individualizing education is vital to success in learning a new lanugage.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I have been practicing salsa and bachata dancing. My friends and I went to a Latin dance event that was so much fun and so inspiring to see people of all walks of life dancing, socializing, and appreciating Latin culture.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I advise students looking for a Spanish teacher to look for an authentic experience that doesn't feel forced. There is a huge differenc between language *learning* and language *acquisition*. Language learning is learning about rules, vocabulary, and other aspects of a language. Language acquisition is absorbing language in a way that will allow you to use the language authentically. This is what you want if you want to be fluent in a foreign language.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should always talk to a teacher about their needs. You should always advocate for yourself and ask questions if you do not understand a teacher's methods. If you advocate for your needs, the teacher will either explain their methods or tailor the lessons to fit your needs. Never be afraid to speak up.
