About

I am a newly retired math teacher. I had a wonderful 32 year career teaching all levels of high school math, coaching Cross Country, basketball and spring track. I love tutoring over zoom and "unlocking" the places that students get 'stuck'. I also enjoy all parts of teaching math, including SAT and ACT prep.

I love helping students move from being and feeling "lost" to feeling like "I got this". I think I'm very good at walking students through each step of the problem or topic - building confidence along the way! I also truly love the success I have had improving students' SAT math scores!

    Frequently asked questions

What I enjoy to do, is to review previously learned math concepts and then dig into the new material.   I also provide good "test prep" material ... sample worksheets, etc for the student to help review.

BS degree in Computer Science, minor in math (Siena College - 1982)

Master of Arts in Teaching Math (Simmons College - 1989)

    $70 per hour, $50 for 45 minutes.

I had a career change in 1986 from Software Development and computer programming to teaching high school math.  Along the way, I was fortunate to have great mentors who also guided my into athletics.  I coached Cross Country and Outdoor track for 30 years, and Boys JV and Varsity basketball for13 years.

All levels, all ages (middle school to college)

When I retired last June, it was during the Pandemic so there was no party or farewell (which is actually ok, since I am not a big "look at me" person).  Two wonderful things happened:

I was lucky to have our oldest son drive me as Grand Marshall of the Senior Class parade around the town that I taught in.

Secondly, several of my former students organized a "good bye and congrats" party at an area restaurant.   Probably over 100 of my former students attended, along with my inlaws, wife and kids.   It was such a touching and emotional night for me and I am eternally grateful.

Make sure they have the depth of knowledge and experience to figure out how the curriculum/lessons of the new student work.

Additionally, make sure the teacher is comfortable and effective using Zoom or Google Meet.
