Kerry O'Grady
About
I started tutoring Algebra over the phone when I was in junior high, and I kept tutoring math through high school. My first job after college was as a high school math teacher and learning center math tutor. I have since taught art and worked in education more broadly. I also am an education researcher and am writing about mathematical processes.
I love helping others find that appreciation for their own way of thinking, their own way of learning, that makes the most sense for them. Then, by understaning math in their own terms, they get to enjoy the cool parts of math their way.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Listen, look at their work, ask a lot of questions about that they understand, listen some more... and then start at the fundamentals. I like to break the basic things down so they make more sense, and then elaborate later.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a PhD in education and research the mathematical process. I also taught math at the high school level and tutored pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, and Trig.
I also have an MFA in studio art and have taught art at the the high school and college levels. If you're an "art person" trying to "get math," let's talk.
