Hi...my name is Patty DeAngelus Hathaway and I have over 20 years of classroom experience in the public school system. I started my own tutoring business when COVID hit and really love helping students achieve their goals one-on-one. I'm using a very specific and systematic reading program called the Barton Reading and Spelling System which is Orton Gillingham based. It was developed for students with dyslexia but helps all struggling readers. I also have another reading program called Foundation in Sounds that I use with students who cannot pass the Barton screening. The subject I've been tutoring in primarily is reading but I also had math students in 2022. My education includes a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Roger Williams University. I would love to help your child progress in his or her education with my knowledge, encouragement, and positive energy. My lessons are engaging and motivating and help keep students focused. Patty is a really dedicated tutor who cares deeply about her work and students. She is passionate about helping kids. It shows in her enthusiasm and her efforts to make sessions interesting and engaging. Mrs Patty Hathaway was very helpful when COVID closed the schools My son was expected to adapt my son doesnt adapt well he is on the autism spectrum Im a single parent with very little computer skills Patty was able to get My son to engage he was failing with the on line learning as we went through COVID his grades went up to As and Bs Patty was sent to us by angels she cares about her students if it wasnt for Patty My son would not have made it through the distance learning thank you Patty Hathaway Art I appreciate your help

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

When first working with new students, I ask them what area(s) they are struggling the most in and talk about what learning strategies have worked best for them. My goal is to get to know each student both personally and academically. This helps to foster a strong rapport and trusting relationship.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching and have fulfilled requirements for all special education courses. I also have 18+ years experience working with a diverse population of students including students with ADD/ADHD and students on the autism spectrum.
