Sydney's Tutoring
About
Hello :) my name is Sydney. I teach fifth grade in Concord, MA. This is my second year teaching there. Prior to this position I taught second grade for two years in Watertown. I also worked in the special education department in the Lexington and before that I taught English to students in Japan. I have my Master's degree in Elementary Education and I am a Massachusetts licensed teacher for grades 1-6. I have tutored students as young as 5 and as old as 13, and everything in between!
I love teaching and working with kids! I can't imagine having any other job than being a teacher!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I meet with a new student I like to spend our first lesson getting to know eachother. Students must feel comfortable with their tutor to be able to learn from them. After we get to know eachother, I do some initial informal and formal testing to determine what level they are at. I also like for the student to tell me what their educational goals are and what they want to improve in. It's crucial for students to have buy in when it comes to tutoring.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a classroom teacher for four years. I taught second grade for two years and I am currently in my second year of teaching fifth grade. I have been tutoring on and off for the past 4 years. I also have my Masters Degree in Elementary Education and I am a Massachusett's Licensed teacher for grades 1-6.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, I charge all my customers the same price and its per hour. I tried to price myself $10-20 below what the average tutor rate is in this area.
How did you get started teaching?
I volunteered to teach summer school while I was in high school and I fell in love with teaching from that experience. I went to college for education and since graduating with my M.Ed, I have been teaching.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with many different types of learners. I taught students in Japan, I worked with students on the Autism Spectrum, I've taught kids with a range of special education needs. You name it, I probably have worked with a student with that learning profile.
