Gabriel Dalton
About
Hello, my name is Gabriel, I hold a B.A. in History from Pomona College, where I graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a 4.0 GPA, and a recent admit to Harvard Divinity School where I plan to study for an M.T.S. in New Testament. As a community college transfer, I gained experience working as a peer tutor for a year at my previous institution, Pasadena City College, where I worked at a tutoring center and specialized in social sciences. During this time I worked one-on-one with both college and adult students who had come from all sorts of classes, from history to philosophy. I did everything from helping to edit papers to giving advice on where to get started with a research project. Indeed, I learned I was not alone with finding the prospect of getting started on a large research project daunting, and the importance of having some initial pointers for guidance in such a process.
Before transferring to Pomona, I earned a 1550 on the SAT, scoring 800 in Math and 750 in English. While studying for the SAT, I learned the profound importance of direct, immediate, and specific feedback, which I obtained via practice tests and consultation of online question breakdowns. I credit this study regime with a large increase in my score. I implement similar techniques when tutoring for the SAT, looking at the questions a student gets wrong and pinpointing the errors in thinking they are prone to, or where their knowledge is lacking. Then, I seek to come up with drills that maximize a student’s exposure to questions that challenge their weakest areas.
Whether it’s SAT prep, math, or English I am excited to help in any way I can. Please feel free to schedule a session or reach out with any questions!
