About
I graduated with a B.S. in zoology from University of Maine in 2014. I then completed a one year teaching certification course in physical and life sciences from University of Southern Maine. After that I completed a MS in special education from University of Southern Maine.
I worked as a paraprofessional in Brighton, MA for the 2017-2018 school year. During the 2018-2019 school year I worked as a high school science teacher in Dorchester, MA with students with severe behavioral disabilities. I currently work at an alternative high school in Medford, MA teaching biology, chemistry, and physics.
I love working with students and helping them to grasp concepts that a difficult to comprehend. I enjoy helping students getting through struggles that they have with learning. I love creating curriculum that can be understood by all students.
I have always been passionate about science. I wanted to be a zoologist since I was 10 years old. I found out in college that working in a lab is not the right job for me. I went into teaching because I enjoyed the complexities and challenges of the job.
I worked as an environmental educator for 2 years with the Field's Pond Audubon Center. I took elementary and middle school children on tours of the facilities and created field trip lesson plans. I also helped run the summer camp programs. I have been as a teacher for the past two years. I have taught geometry, algebra, ELA, biology, chemistry, physics, Earth science, and forensics.
I'm certified in MA with a 7-12th grade biology and special education license. During my undergrad I received Dean's list 4 times. I also was acknowledged in 3 papers for the work I did as an undergraduate research scientist.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I get to know the student. I take learning inventories and discuss what they need the most help with. I then customize lessons to their needs. Often times, I will show them how to work through a problem, then we will complete a few together, and lastly I will have my student work on problems independently. If there seems to be a knowledge gap then I will work backwards on a skill until the student understands it completely.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been working/interning as a science teacher or science teacher aide in public school system for three years. Prior to that I have worked in an evolutionary biology lab for four years as an undergraduate researcher. I developed and implemented curriculum at the Field's Pond Audubon Center in Holden, ME for two years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The prices vary based on what the student needs.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching during a volunteer position at the Audubon Center. I lead elementary school fieldtrips around the facility and taught about the different environments and organisms the students encountered.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with AP students, honors students, English Language Learners, gifted and talented students, students with behavioral, social emotional, and cognitive impairments.
